Advanced Technologies Academy
Submitted by coaches Johnny Nguyen and Chris Argento:
"As the 2025-2026 LVQBA season approaches, the A-TECH Mavericks are preparing for a transition year. After coming agonizingly close to winning the first State Championship in A-TECH history, the Mavericks lost four year starter Carlo Allietti and captain Callum Maffey to graduation, both of whom were in the top 13 in individual scoring last season. |
A rebuilding A-TECH program has a little bit of everything to look forward to this year, from inexperienced players getting their first taste of pyramidal action to returning junior varsity veterans eager to see what a year of experience under their belts will do for them to a small core of experienced varsity players with Nationals qualifying experience looking to prove that last year was no fluke. Trivia-fever has taken over A-TECH this year and the Mavericks will be fielding three teams to accommodate all of the players looking to smash those buzzers.
A-TECH A may be one of the most experienced junior varsity teams in the league, led by captain Ezekiel Forman-Cohen. Joining Forman-Cohen are seasoned NAQT players Tryston Thomas, Raagavi Mohan Kumar, Eli Grey, and Anthony Salas as well as new teammates Tate Tandberg and Saran Govindharajan Rajesh. This group of seven is practicing hard and studying harder and looking forward to pulling off some impressive performances during the upcoming season.
A-TECH B came into the season knowing that they had a rebuilding effort after losing two of the top three scorers from last year’s State Runner-up and Nationals qualifying squad. However, after finalizing its roster, A-TECH B is ready to confidently declare, 'We don’t rebuild - we reload!' A-TECH B returns senior co-captain William Guild as well as sophomore co-captains Mark Argento and Caleb Cordon. Joining this trio are freshmen Vidyuth Naveenkumar and Andrew Calvert, who have quickly impressed their teammates and coaches with their depth of knowledge and speed on the buzzer during preseason practices and scrimmages. While it might take a little while for this team to hit their true potential, look for them to do some damage as the season progresses and the post-season tournaments start.
A-TECH C is a mixture of NAQT and Varsity Quiz veterans as well as quiz bowl newcomers who are looking to prove themselves on the big stage. Captain Bryan Portillo leads NAQT veterans Jack Newby, Om Patel, and Sam Garcia, along with newcomers Terrence Ng, Siana Akeripa, and Brianna Solis. With Portillo bringing a bevy of Varsity Quiz experience, Newby a threat to power any question on any subject, Garcia making a return following taking a year off after a stellar debut freshman season, and Patel having a ton of middle school NAQT experience, A-TECH C is poised to turn some heads over the course of the season."
